I’m a former dog owner. I’m an unlucky one who had to put his family dog down after unsuccessfully trying to find a new home for it after it bit me. So, I read again in the news how a dog is running free and bites someone. This time it was a Black Lab. Yep, not an evil Pit Bull, a Lab. No leash. I’ve personally dealt with neighbors who refuse to use a leash because “my pet would never hurt anyone”. Grow up, get real, and stop acting like you really know what is going on in the mind of a dog. You DON’T know. Hence, the reason there is a leash law in many communities. Stop ignoring it! In the case of the Black Lab, this dog bite a lady, was picked up and held in quarantine, then, horribly, it was euthanized accidentally.
If only this “dog who would have never hurt a flea” was on a leash, none of this nightmare would have happened. No bite, no error at Animal Control… I expect the City Animal Control office will get sued, all because someone didn’t use a leash when the law told them to.
I’m done. -Jeff

Leash laws are needed in lots of places. I used to live in Northeast Georgia and there were no such laws. Animals in our neighbor roamed around like we lived in the middle of a zoo. Not only is failing to take responsibility for your own animals potentially dangerous for others, it also shows that people who do seemingly don’t even care for their own animals. They could get run over, lost or stolen. My wife and I even fed some of those dogs that would come around because they were clearly hungry. One dog we even rescued from the street. It was hungry and clearly a basketcase. It had wondered into my wife’s workplace, and she felt sorry for it. “Maple” cost us $450 bucks rent deposit (landlord apparently didn’t share our empathy. lol), but it was worth it to see her happy again.
