As I have grown in my faith, traveled the road, so to speak, certain truths become much clearer. The one truth that God put on my heart as I read Ezekiel 6-7:27 was that we are to ”leave judgement and revenge to God” and not take revenge into our own hands. Sure, we are to hold those calling themselves Christians accountable, but to some extent we are to withhold this type of judgement against nonbelievers, particularly if you are a hypocrite Christian. (See Matt 7:1-5) Now, since all Christians are not hypocrites, it isn’t wrong to point out that lying is wrong when one lies, or that stealing is wrong when one robs you, etc. BUT, if you happen to be in that small percentage of Christians that regularly steals things, then you would be wrong to go around judging people that steal things. Duh! Oh, and guys, since we all deal with lust in our minds, STOP running up and down the streets screaming at the lustful nonbelievers unless you are sure to include yourself as a guilty party.
WOW! I sure can get off topic quickly, well at least a little sidetracked that is. Promised judgement is my topic, and I’m relating it to Ezzy’s ordeal in his book Ezekiel. Boy, did chapter 6 and 7 show how God takes care of a problem. Makes me like our judicial system even more in some ways. On the other hand, it WOULD be kind of nice if lawsuits could be settled, um, THE DAY THEY COME TO COURT! So, messing up so bad that God takes care of the punishment gets us swift, greatly deserving and EFFICIENT closure to the situation.
God notes He would have the sword waiting OUTSIDE town, and plague and famine waiting INSIDE town. Repeatedly, he makes it clear, this is due to “their sins”. He even conveniently lists the sins. This is like Peoples Court, man, 30 minutes and we are done, then you have lots of time to suffer the punishment!
I wonder how our society would handle itself if we knew that our court date was IT. On that day our full punishment, if sentenced, would be enacted. No, appeal, appeal, appeal (nope, I’m not repeating myself), sue, sue, sue, whine, whine, whine. There would be no time for that, and I supposed, in the end, not nearly as many people would be in court. Swift to the point judgement, that was what God was all about here. This snapshot of God’s court is what God WILL be all about in the coming judgement.
Are you ready? Has someone paid your fine in full yet? If you have no idea what I’m talking about, read this: Lied Lately?
Peace!
