Is There a Line Anymore?

Judges 21:25 says “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as he saw fit.

Historians will tell you that we must never forget the past, for when we do, we will surely repeat the mistakes of old. Have you ever personally done this? I know we can look through history and see example after example of people and countries trying to do the same thing that had already failed them once before. Maybe you know of some specific examples?

Today I’m challenged considering how over history, when people abandon God’s plan, they always end up coming back to God and begging for forgiveness. It does not fail. Over and over the Israelites went through this crazy cycle. Many people also personally go through this cycle of fighting God’s plan in their lives only to come to the foot of the cross in repentance when they realize the folly of their “own plan”.

So, how does this statement, “everyone did as he saw fit” from Judges, which is the very last verse of the entire book, become relevant today? In the USA I see this mentality becoming the norm. Don’t you? Nobody is allowed to tell anyone they are wrong. There are riots over the simplest things. The Satanic Temple is suing over a Nativity Scene, really! (1) Where is the line to be drawn? It must be drawn! We know this from history and we delude ourselves if we think it will not keep moving.Crossing-the-Line-300x191

The government in the USA is by the people, for the people and of the people. Too many of us do not care, and we are seeing the results. Believe it or not LAW is not TRUTH. Law is made my man; Truth comes from God. Laws change, truth does not. Argue about this fact all you want, but it’s true.

Everyone does as they see fit, and if they cannot, they throw a tantrum. So many of us are like whiny, undisciplined kids! Think about it! No one acts as a parent anymore, we all just run around with not an ounce of self-control and look where we are today. If you are thinking that things are great and so much better, you are one of those undisciplined kids who has truly missed the big picture. I’m so sorry.

When Israel got done whining about not having a King like all the rest of the countries around them (envy), God relented so they could learn a lesson. Israel ended up being split into 2 kingdoms, Judah and Israel, wars were aplenty, then came Persian and Babylonian enslavements, and the list goes on and on. All they had to do was trust in the Truth God presented. It IS that simple.

Is there a line anymore? Absolutely, so many of us just can’t see it, or chose to ignore it. It’s not okay to think everything should be okay; lines must be drawn or else everyone will continue walking off the cliff of ignorance.

School Lunch Standards, what?

Congress fighting the proposed healthier school lunch standards to save money is very shortsighted and typical of a government who cannot see the big picture.  What is so difficult to understand? Unhealthy lunches have contributed to childhood obesity.  Healthcare costs for children will only increase and we know how cheap healthcare is today!  Oh, but wait, we want the government to help cover our healthcare.  Let’s think about this paradox.  The government wants to save money by continuing to feed unhealthy food to our kids AND the government wants to SPEND money to help pay for their healthcare.  Do you see a losing battle here? Ridiculous.  Let’s just burn money.

Here’s want needs done.

First, we need to permanently declassify tomato paste/sauce as a vegetable.  It’s a fruit, right?  Cheese pizza has no vegetables on it!  Second, we need to immediately adopt the higher school lunch standards which include the increased use of whole grains, fresh veggies, etc.
To pay for this perceived increased cost, buy in bulk and do the Wal-Mart thing.  Negotiate the price that you want. It’s simple economics…AND, best of all, once this program is in place healthy food prices will start to drop!  Again, it’s economics 101.  If people want to buy it, then they will buy it at the lowest cost available.  Companies will want their business, thus they will work to reduce costs.  Hopefully, we will then soon see processed, artificially enriched, no nutritional value food prices increase! (I’m not holding my breath)
Finally, here’s the diamond in the rough.  In ten years we can look back and see just how much money we have saved on healthcare.  We will potentially see much healthier kids actually running around instead of rolling around.  I can’t believe the number of little kids I see every day that are simple morbidly fat.  We can do better and it’s not that difficult to understand.

The Yo-Yo Effect

Today, I opened up the paper and laughed.  The Indianapolis Star’s front page blared “Red Tide Rising – Nations debt is approaching levels that could be perilous”.  Oh no, duck for cover!!!!!

Are you kidding me?  The Nation’s debt HAS been on perilous grounds for over 100 years!  It’s nothing new.  As Administrations change, priorities change.  We’ve had Republicans and Democrats who’ve worked to decrease our debt, but we’ve also had these same administrations work very hard to increase it as well!  Our debt has increased voluntarily and involuntarily.  Wars have tended to involuntarily increase debts and social programs have voluntarily increased our debt.

Most recently the Obama Administration has pushed through Healthcare change (which is needed, but arguably not in the way it currently got passed).  Now, a few days later, we have a callout for getting a handle on our National Debt!  Again, this is not just a Democrat thing.  Republicans have been just as guilty.  My problem is the continued hypocrisy.  Do they think us Americans are THAT stupid?

Case in point:

  1. We need Healthcare change.  It’s going to cost this much. (hint: that’s means is costs money)
  2. We can do this by not spending any money (no such thing as a free lunch comes to mind)
  3. Oh no, now we need to decrease our national debt! (reread points 1 and 2)

Whether we look at Social Security, Education, Defense Spending, Infrastructure, pet projects or saving the environment, it all costs money.  When are we going to say no? Really say NO?

It’s like a yo-yo.  I need this and that, give me, give me, give me!  Oh no, we need to balance the budget, balance, balance, balance!  Up and down we go.  Sea sick yet?  I am.

If we truly look at the government and how it spends money, we could write a very long book on how and why we should never model our own finances off of government financial actions.  Finances 101 goes something like this:

  1. Take account of your income.
  2. Put aside at least 10% for savings.
  3. Put aside the amount of money you wish to donate to charity.
  4. Record your basic expenses.
  5. Record how much money you have left.
  6. If you are in the negative, you must cut costs, revisit items 3 & 4.
  7. If you are in the positive go to item 8.
  8. With consideration to your current job stability and the current economy decide how best to use the remaining money.
  9. Save more, give more or spend more.

There you go.  It’s not that hard.  Let’s see how the government does.

  1. Decide how to spend an unknown amount of money called income.  Figure out how many tax dollars to collect later (maybe we should switch to Euros?).
  2. Don’t save anything because you can’t due to all of the debt you already have.
  3. Donate to whatever charity or cause scratches your back the most.
  4. You have no basic expenses; it’s all highly complicated you know.
  5. You don’t know how much money you have left because you are starting with an imaginary number; just increase it so you have what you need.
  6. If you are in the negative, revisit item 5.
  7. If you are in the positive revisit items 3 & 4 so you can spend it.
  8. With consideration to your future political career promise to spend more money; revisit items 3 & 4 again.
  9. Talk more, give more and spend more.  Remember we are doing what you, the People, need.

Where will this all lead?  No place good.  ‘Nuff said.  The yo-yo keeps on spinning…

Stupid, just stupid

How does this sound?  I’ve decided to go ahead and tell my wife to ask for less money from her employer.  On top of that I’ve decided that I’m going to give out about 10 times the amount of money we, as a family, make to help out those in need.  I’ve also decided that by 2020 I’ll also be giving out a sum equal to our family income to people who think my life actions may have caused them harm, or in other words, a lost cause…  I love teaching good economics to my son!  [cough, cough]

In case you’re lost, this describes perfectly the US government…I just left off the 100’s of other things we commit money to when we don’t have any money to commit to it in the first place.

This post was inspired by our brilliant commitment to give around $100 billion a year by 2020 to the “climate change fund”.  Hey, I just started a “change the color of the blue sky fund”!  Send checks to…yeah, I know, it sounds stupid right?

Fox News

fox newsNope, I’m not going into the realm of hunting.  Little red foxes, you are safe.  I’m actually completely blown away by our current government administration under President Obama.  I’m reading about how there is a very public cry out against Fox News.  Yes, the media is being targeted for reporting the news as they see it…targeted by our GOVERNMENT!  Thank goodness that the other news stations stood up for what is so clearly right…they told the government that you HAVE to allow Fox News a spot for interviewing or we will NOT be a part of the interviewing!

I’m actually totally appalled at the attempt to censor, delegitimize and plain ban media that presents opinions contrary to what the government wants to hear!  I don’t think Obama is truly desiring socialism like many try and prove, but this current debacle comes straight out of a communist regime type attitude!!!  Last I checked there was something called, “The freedom of the press”…

Please, someone, tell me that the government was trying to do the right thing!  Stand up for this action, I would love to hear it!  How are you going to twist it to make it sound like Obama’s administration is still in the right?  I dare you to put it in writing.

Are They Playing Dumb?

The front page of the Indianapolis Star puts forth the observation:

$9T Deficit Projection Threatens Obama’s Plan

Budget Office’s Analysis Finds Level of Spending Unsustainable

Two things…

1) Are we seriously being led by complete imbeciles?  I’ve been hearing since well before the Presidential Debates this question: “Where are you going to get the money to pay for your programs…?”

dumb2) Most likely tax payers were charged to fund this analysis.  Now, I can’t prove that, and it doesn’t really change anything either way, but come on!

Once again, it takes over a year for the government to figure out that what they were saying during the campaign is “unsustainable”, “unrealistic” and complete “pie in the sky” rhetoric.

I pity all the Obama backers out there that are smelling their feet as they enter their mouths.

It was bad enough that Bush put forward one bailout, now we have had a second.  We begged for accountability regarding how the money was spent, but the bank parties went on and the bonuses spread.  We begged for this Republic to let the industry work itself out, but no, we toss money on the fire assuming that money isn’t combustible.

A government that cannot seem to think is what is not sustainable!

Bang Head Here

I seem to vividly recall all the experts saying that Wall Street was continuing to spiral down because our government hadn’t produced a bailout yet.  This same statement was in the newspaper today.  Funny thing is, this was the same headline several months ago right before the bang-headfirst huge and controversial bailout.

I seem to recall many experts and a few politicians who noted that you can’t fix a recession by throwing money on it (let alone money we don’t have).  Here we are attempting to repeat the same failed experiment, and we haven’t even given the 1st bailout time to affect anything.

We are so impatient as a society it’s a wonder we don’t have more shootings while waiting for our food in a fast food drive through, hmmm, not fast enough…  We need a few scientists in Congress and the House to note how doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is called insanity, and it’s definitely not logical.

Okay, I feel better now.  Every so often watching our country ruin itself gets me a little upset.
